Cricket World Cup 2011: Bombay to Host Final, Mohali One Semi

Final of Cricket World Cup 2011 will be played in Mumbai and one of the semi-finals in Mohali according to the allocation of India’s share of matches in the mega event that was announced on Wednesday.

In a statement, the Indian cricket board said that county will organize 29 matches at eight venues. The other co-hosts of the event are Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

The thorough timetable of the 14-nation tournament will be announced on November 9 in Mumbai.

The Wankhede stadium in Mumbai, which is being renovated for the World Cup, will host three matches, including the final, while Mohali will stage one semi-final and two other games.

One quarter-final match will be played in western city of Ahmedabad, which will also co-host two other matches.

According to announcement, four matches each will be played in New Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Nagpur and Kolkata, including one featuring the home team.

Sri Lanka will host 12 and Bangladesh eight of the remaining 20 games in the 49-match tournament after Pakistan were removed as co-hosts by the International Cricket Council due to security concerns.

Sri Lanka will stage the other semi-final and one quarter-final, while Bangladesh will host the opening ceremony on February 18 and two quarter-finals.

The 14 teams have been divided into two groups with the top four from each qualifying for the quarter-finals.

Group A features defending champions Australia, Pakistan, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Canada and Kenya.

Group B comprises India, South Africa, England, West Indies, Bangladesh, Ireland and the Netherlands.
