Excise staff seizing illicit liquor continuously

Bhopal: Excise staff is seizing illicit liquor through continuous raids to ensure free and fair Lok Sabha elections in Madhya Pradesh. They seized 1819 litre illicit liquor costing Rs. one lakh 40 thousand in Datia district during last 24 hours. Similarly, 260 litre liquor from various places in Rajgarh district and 131 litre in Ratlam district was seized. Action under Excise Act is being taken against the persons arrested in this connection. On April 2, the excise staff conducted 251 raids in which 609 liter country-made liquor, 59 litre IMFL and 70 litre beer were seized.

As per information sent by Excise Department to Election Commission on April 4, so far Rs. 42 lakh cash has been seized since announcement of elections. Rs. 12 lakh was seized from Visandas Tharani, a resident of Hamidia Road, Bhopal during last 24 hours. So far, flying squads have seized Rs. 16 lakh 32 thousand 870 cash and material and police Rs. 3 crore 18 lakh 12 thousand 80. Flying squads are taking action on 12 complaints regarding violation of model code of conduct. During last 24 hours, SST has seized Rs. 2 lakh 70 thousand in Bhopal. The SST has also seized material worth Rs. 24 thousand 800. Thus, the SST has seized Rs. 31 lakh 70 thousand 340 cash and material worth Rs. 22 lakh 6 thousand 500 so far.
