Yesterday IPL Match Highlights : Who won IPL match DC vs SRH on April 5, 2019

Match 16 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 edition saw Delhi Capitals (DC) host their second home game of the season wherein they took on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Thursday evening (April 4). SRH prevailed on top of DC, at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, Delhi, as the home side failed to defend a modest score of 129 for 8.

Here are the HIGHLIGHTS from Delhi Capitals vs Surisers Hyderabad match in Indian Premier League 2019:

1) Before this match, SRH’s stand-in skipper Bhuvneshwar Kumar had gone for plenty in the ongoing edition of IPL. He had to stage a comeback and lead from the front in the match versus DC. The same happened and the captain led from the front. He castled Prithvi Shaw’s stumps with an off-cutter as the right-hander failed to connect and played an erratic shot. The 29-year-old struck once again to get rid of Chris Morris for a 15-ball 17.

2) Mohammad Nabi continued his good work with the ball. On a slow surface at the Kotla, the Afghan spinner strangled the opposition by bowling stump-to-stump and doing the basics right. He followed his 4 for 11 versus Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to return with 2 for 21. He accounted for the dismissals of Shikhar Dhawan and Rishabh Pant.

3) While DC batters failed to read the lengths and get accustomed to the slowness of the surface, skipper Iyer played a handy knock to propel the team score beyond 100. He showed more application and attacked only when necessary. He scored only 18 runs in boundaries (41.86%) but still managed to score more than a run-a-ball. He ran hard between wickets to keep the scoreboard ticking and respected the tight bowling.

4) A lot was expected off Chris Morris to deliver with the long handle. However, he perished but the big hitting was provided by a handy cameo from left-hander Axar Patel. The all-rounder struck a 13-ball 23 which included two monstrous hits over the fence to take the total beyond 125.

5) Jonny Bairstow continued to up the ante from the word go without going overboard. It was all about finding the gaps and using his power to good use to take SRH off to a flier. The Englishman attacked Sandeep Lamichhane and forced him to rethink his plans, scored freely against Morris’ erratic line and lengths whereas used the pace of Rabada. As a result, SRH compiled their second-highest score in Powerplays this season. Bairstow’s 48 (42 runs came in boundaries) proved to be the difference when the chase got stiff.

6) From 68 for 1, SRH succumbed to 111 for 5. They wobbled a bit in the chase with DC bowlers keeping it tight. However, it was the Orange Army’s middle order batters who threw their scalps in a bid to clear the field. With Bairstow-David Warner’s highly-successful partnership, their middle order hasn’t batted a lot and it clearly showed that they lacked game time. They were caught between attacking or taking the game till the last few overs.

7) Many would have expected a dominating show from Rashid Khan at the Kotla. However, it was his senior pro, Nabi, who played a major role in SRH’s third win on the trot. Following his impressive spell, the all-rounder prevented the chase from going into the last over. He finished things off in the penultimate over by reading Rabada’s variations. He used Kotla’s small dimensions to good effect to lead SRH to a 5-wicket win and remain unbeaten on 17* (9 balls).
