CM hails Minimata’s role in women’s empowerment

Minimata has made remarkable contributions towards women empowerment, labour welfare and untouchability alleviation,” Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said on Wednesday.

Her role in getting the Untouchability (Offences) Bill passed in the Lok Sabha cannot be forgotten. The Chhattisgarh government is striving to build an egalitarian society free from exploitation, discrimination and atrocities, Baghel said.

He was addressing the ‘Minimata Memorial Day’ programme via video conferencing from his residence.

The Chief Minister inaugurated the event by paying tribute to former MP Minimata. Urban Administration Minister Dr Shiv Kumar Dahariya also attended the programme organized by Guru Ghasidas Sahitya and Cultural Academy. Minimata was the first woman MP of Chhattisgarh.

Baghel said Minimata understood the pain of poverty, displacement, exploitation and tyranny since childhood. She had witnessed the atrocities of British rulers. She served as the member of the Lok Sabha from 1952 to 1972. As her political life began, Minimata intensified the work of social uplift and dedicated her life towards eradication of social evils.
