Kerala author happy to figure in Nobel shortlist

KERALA (IANS): K. Satchidanandan a leading poet and critic figured on the list of 18 probables in the race for the prestigious Nobel Prize in Literature of this year. A multifaceted personality with works in Malayalam and English, Satchidanandan is an academician, editor, translator and playwright.

On the occasion he veteran writer expressed his happiness saying, “I feel it is as good as getting the award that my name is there in the list of probables.”

In 1996 he became the executive head of the Sahitya Akademi for a decade (1996-2006).

He was born in Thrissur, he started his career as a professor of English at K.K.T.M. College, Pulloot in 1968, and moved to Christ College in 1970. He voluntarily retired from this post in 1992 to take up the editorship of Indian Literature, the English journal of the Indian National Academy in Delhi.

Sixty five year-old Satchidanandan has now based in Delhi.
