State urban parking policy to be implemented in MP

Bhopal: State urban parking policy will be implemented to ensure smooth and safe traffic in cities of the state. The policy was endorsed at a meeting of state-level Unified Metropolitan Transport Council chaired by Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan here today. Home Minister Shri Babulal Gaur, Urban Development and Environment Minister Shri Kailash Vijayvargiya, Finance Minister Shri Jayant Malaiya, Public Relations Minister Shri Rajendra Shukla and Revenue Minister Shri Rampal Singh attended the meeting.

Objective of urban parking policy is to increase pace of vehicles movement and making cities traffic jam-free. The Chief Minister said that parking projects should be chalked out on the basis of specific needs of various cities. Project should be practical and convenient for people. It was informed that under the policy, city-wise integrated parking infrastructure will be developed and managed. Modern technique will be used in parking management, which will be managed under PPP mode. In it, land will be used a wealth. Parking fund will be constituted for effective parking management. Parking-related pilot projects will be implemented in cities.

The meeting was informed that comprehensive mobility plans of Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur and Ujjain have been chalked out. DPRs of metro light trains of Bhopal and Indore have been prepared. It was suggested at the meeting that rural and urban transport policies should be integrated. In view of increasing number of vehicles posts in traffic police should be increased. Chief Secretary Shri Anthony de Sa, Principal Secretary Urban Development Shri S.N. Mishra, Commissioner Urban Administration Shri Sanjay Shukla and Secretary to CM Shri Vivek Agrawal were also present in the meeting.
