Bhopal’s 175 years old Chowk Bazar to wear heritage look

Bhopal: The historic Chowk Bazar in old city of Bhopal will soon wear a heritage look as it has nearly two hundred years old trading history. The Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced this here today while launching a Rs. 5.19 crore renovation project.

Shri Chouhan described the Chowk Bazar as pride of Bhopal saying that it will soon have heritage look and status with the cooperation of local people. He said that trading has been going on here for 175 years. All the lanes and roads inside the Chowk Bazar area will match the heritage status. He said that Bhopal is going to become a smart city in near future. It will be a worth visiting place for the visitors as it will be a major trading centre. Collective efforts will be made to rebuild the Chowk Bazar. He said that a consultative meeting with the people’s representatives will be held for finalising proposed development plans. The chowk bazar will promote the composite culture of Bhopal city. A documentary on the proposed heritage look of Chowk Bazar will also be screened on the occasion.

Mayor Bhopal Shri Alok Sharma in his welcome speech said that under ground electric lines will be laid and sewage systems improved. All sign boards will be in symmetry. Sitting arrangements, drinking water arrangements will be made for the visitors and customers. It will have Wi-Fi facility and well-planed parking system.

Member of Parliament Shri Alok Sanjar, MLA Shri Surendra Nath Singh and Nayab Mufti and Imam of Jama Masjid Jasim Dad Khan also expressed their views.

Member of Parliament Shri Meghraj Jain, Shri Om Yadav, Shri Vijesh Lunawat, members of mayor in council, councilors and representatives of trading community were present. Chairman Bhopal Municipal Corporation Dr. Surjit Singh Chouhan gave a vote of thanks.
