Bhopal votes on Sunday, BJP’s Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur takes on Digvijaya Singh of Congress

The Congress had last won the seat of Bhopal in 1984, after which the BJP has won consecutively

Bhopal: The Lok Sabha constituency of Bhopal is one of the 29 Lok Sabha constituencies which will be polling in the sixth phase of the 2019 general elections which will be held on May 12. The Lok Sabha seat of Bhopal is politically volatile and is a stronghold of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The Congress had last won the seat of Bhopal in 1984, after which the BJP has won consecutively. This year, the BJP nominated Malegaon blast accused Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur enraging many controversies. Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh is the candidate who has been placed by the Congress party.
In 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Alok Sanjar of the BJP defeated PC Sharma of the Congress party with a huge vote margin of 3,70,696 votes. The vote share of the BJP and the Congress was 63.19 per cent and 30.39 per cent respectively. The Union Minister of Water and Sanitation Uma Bharati also contested from the seat of Bhopal in 1999.
The BJP is sent its stalwarts Uma Bharti and Sumitra Mahajan to campaign in Bhopal for the terror-accused on the poll plank of Hindutva, nationalism and development while Digvijaya Singh has promised employment and development.
There are eight Assembly constituencies in the Parliamentary seat of Bhopal. These are Berasia, Bhopal Uttar, Narela, Bhopal Dakshin-Paschim, Bhopal Madhya, Govindpura, Huzur and Sehore. The Berasia Assembly seats is reserved for the candidates of Scheduled Caste category.
The Lok Sabha elections results will be declared on May 23.
