SC Holds Validity of 4% Muslim Reservation in AP
In an interim order, the Supreme Court has held validity of four per cent reservation to backward members of Muslim community in the state, thus giving a major boos to Andhra Pradesh government, reported PTI.
However, the bench comprising of Chief Justice KG Balakrishnan and Justices J M Panchal and B S Chauhan referred the matter to a Constitution bench for examination of the validity of the impugned Act, as important constitutional issues are involved in it, report said.
The bench gave the ruling while hearing a Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by the government against an order of Andhra High Court which had termed the provision as unconstitutional.
