Bhopal. Public Relations and Energy Minister Shri Rajendra Shukla has directed to attach priority to fill water in lakes in nearby areas through Bansagar canals so that apart from rise in ground water level, cattle also get drinking water. Shri Shukla was reviewing work to fill lakes in Rewa through Bansagar canals are Rewa today. MP Shri Janardan Mishra was also present on the occasion.

Shri Shukla expressed displeasure on non-issuance of administrative sanction by Rural Development Department for filling 26 lakes in and around Rewa city through Bansagar canals. He said that in view of water crisis during summer, water was released in Bansagar canals since May 15. It is needed to fill lakes with this water. Shri Shukla said that work is getting delayed due to laxity on the part of Rural Development Department. The Minister said that there are Bansagar canals all around Rewa city. Lifeline Beehar river also exists. It is a matter of concern if despite this, city and nearby areas are hit by drinking water crisis.

Shri Shukla inspects lake

The Minister inspected process of filling Rathara lake from Kyoonti canal through efforts by Rewa Municipal Corporation. He directed to fill Chirhua, Saman, Jhalbadri and Anantpuri lakes through Kyoonti canal. This would lead to rise in ground water level in nearby areas. Besides, arrangements should be made to release water in Chorhata, Lathauribagh, Dhirma and Chandua nullahs through siphoning.

It is noteworthy that on the initiative of Public Relations Minister the 26 lakes of Rewa Vidhan Sabha constituency were filled through Bansagar canals in year 2006-07 and 2008 too. This had rid nearby villages of drinking water crisis and cattle also got adequate water. This year also, the Minister is making efforts that water is released in these lakes through Bansagar canals so that hundreds of nearby villages get rid of drinking water crisis.
