India, China Foreign Ministers Meet Today

External Affairs Minister SM Krishna and his Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi meet in Bangalore on Tuesday, the meeting will focus on all aspects of bilateral relations between the two sides.

The meeting, on the margins of the annual ministerial meeting of Russia, India and China (RIC), comes in the backdrop of heightened rhetoric over the border issue and other irritants.

The bilateral meeting comes two days after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met on the sidelines of the ASEAN-India summit in Thailand and agreed not to magnify differences.

“When Foreign Ministers meet they will discuss the entire gamut of relationship. Nothing is off the table”, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vishnu Prakash was quoted as saying in Bangalore.

“So, the Foreign Ministers will come to review the relationship, they will cover the aspects of relationship which are important for both countries”, Prakash said.

He, however, declined to go into specifics, saying he would not like to pre-judge what they are going to discuss.

While admitting to differences between New Delhi and Beijing, he said, both sides have maturity, mechanisms and framework to address them.
