Bhopal: Lok Sabha Speaker Smt. Sumitra Mahajan has said that it is responsibility of leaders to ensure that common people continue to have trust in politics. She said that such people should come in political arena whom people trust and who can take reins of the country through effective leadership. Smt. Mahajan was speaking at Kushabhau Thakare memorial lecture series at Raja Avdhesh Pratap Singh University at Rewa today. Public Relations Minister Shri Rajendra Shukla was present on the occasion.

Underscoring topic of the lecture “Probity in Politics is Necessary to Save Democracy”, Smt. Mahajan said probity is a necessary ingredient of politics. A person entering political arena must introspect that when in politics he is watched by lakhs of people. Therefore, he must be straightforward in his conduct. She said that probity is the name of purity of heart, conduct and Karma. Only a person possessing these qualities can succeed in politics and is able to defend and further strengthen democracy. Smt. Mahajan said that a real leader is one whose intentions are good, who follows policies and carries people with him. Only such people play important role in safeguarding democracy.

Remembering late Shri Thakare, the Lok Sabha Speaker said that his entire life is worth emulating. He was a man of Rishi Parampara who dedicated his entire life for people’s welfare. Smt. Mahajan exhorted students to concentrate on studies and ensure their all-round personality development.

Public Relations Minister Shri Rajendra Shukla said that late Shri Thakare’s life and personality also inspired political leaders to be impeccable. Thakare Ji has shown that despite being ambitious, one can work with probity in politics. Shri Shukla said that late Thakare Ji life and deeds will continue to inspire every section of society to follow simplicity and dedication. If all people discharge their responsibilities dedicatedly, it will pave the way for India of Swami Vivekananda’s dreams to become world guru.

Shri Bhagwat Sharan Mathur said that our’s is an ancient country, which has always adhered to democratic norms. Laying emphasis on political probity as being necessary to safeguard democracy, he said that safeguarding of democracy is safeguarding of the country. Description of sin and virtue has been made in religion for ensuring probity in character

He said that democracy has 4 pillars. If politics becomes impeccable, all others also become impeccable. People regard political leaders as guides. Therefore, he should understand importance of values and set ideals.

MP Shri Janardan Mishra also spoke on the occasion. At the outset, vice-chancellor of Avdhesh Pratap University Prof. Rahasyamani Mishra informed about the lecture series. Lok Sabha Speaker Smt. Sumitra Mahajan and other guests were presented shawls and coconuts. MLAs Sarvshri Ramakant Tiwari, Shri Girish Gautam, Shri Divyaraj Singh and Smt. Neelam Mishra, Zila Panchayat Chairperson Smt. Maya Singh, Mayor Shri Shivendra Singh, Municipal Corporation Chairman Shri Ripudaman Singh and other public representatives were also present on the occasion.
