Yeddyurappa to pressure Union government for a national policy on mining

SIRSI: B S Yeddyurappa the Karnataka Chief Minister said on Friday, he would bring pressure on the Union Government to come out with a national mining policy to curb illegal mining in the country.

While addressing a public meeting in Diaspora town in the district, he said even during the recent Chief Ministers’ meet in New Delhi he had highlighted the need for a national policy on mining to put a stop to illegal mining.
Yeddyurappa said, “Now the issue is before the Supreme Court. It will decide it”.

Hitting out at the Congress, he accused it of according permission for illegal mining in Karnataka during its rule.

“I would like to question those who are screaming hoarse about illegal mining. Who provided permits for illegal mining ten years ago and why was it not stopped?,” he said.
