Jammu: Violating the ceasefire for the eleventh time this month, Pakistani troops resorted to heavy firing and mortar shelling on forward posts and hamlets along the LoC in Poonch district, leaving a woman injured.
“Pakistani troops have violated the ceasefire and resorted to unprovoked firing of small arms and mortar shells on forward areas along the LoC in Sabzian sector of Poonch from 0125 hours”, a Defence Spokesman said.
They fired 81 mm mortars and from other automatic weapons on forward posts and hamlets. Army troops guarding the border retaliated resulting in exchanges which ended around 0300 hours, the spokesman said, adding a woman identified as Naseema was injured and has been hospitalised.
With today’s ceasefire violations, there have been 11 ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops in August. A youth was killed and two others were injured, including a BSF jawan, when Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire by resorting to firing and mortar shelling on border out posts and hamlets along the IB in 4 sectors of Kanachak, Pargwal, Tawi and R S Pura in Jammu district yesterday.
