Shiv Sena demanded CM to declare wet drought in the Maharashtra

Shiv Sena today asked Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan to declare a ‘wet drought’ (drought due to excess rain) due to unseasonal rains in different parts of the state.

A memorandum is submitted to Prthviraj Chavan highlighting Shiv Sena’s various demands related to the damages caused due to rains. Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray called on Chavan at Sahyadri, the state government guest house in south Mumbai and submitted the memorandum.

The fertilisers for sowing of Rabi crop should be supplied as per demand expeditiously Sena leaders demanded. Also the electric connections of agriculture pumps of farmers which were disconnected be given back to them.

Apart from Uddhav, Sena leaders Subhash Desai, Diwakar Raote and other party legislators were present at the meeting, which lasted for about half an hour.The delegation also expressed concern over the growing incidents of leptospirosis in Konkan region.

Affected farmers should be paid a compensation of Rs10, 000 per hectare and the needy farmers be supplied foodgrains at below poverty line (BPL) rates, said Uddhav. He further added that the employment guarantee scheme (EGS) work be started immediately.
