UPA meet on july 14 to decide VP poll candidate

New Delhi. UPA Allies will meet on july 14 to decide on the Vice Presidential candidate. However there is no consensus emerge, but sources says that Hamid Ansari could get the second term for the prestigious post.
Trinmool Congress, led by Mamata banerjee, which has not take a final call on Pranab Mukherjee’s candidature for Presidential election, will take part in the deliberations.
Reports says that Mamata Banerjee has directed Railway Minister Mukul Roy to attend the UPA meeting.
Trinamool Congress had earlier said that Mamata would announce the party’s decision on the Presidential poll three days ahead of the election.
Sources said that most of the UPA allies and JD(S), SP, BSP and Left parties had indicated they would support Ansari. However, Left leaders said that they would open their cards only after UPA announced its candidate. Moreover the Congress is yet to get any such assurance from Trinamool Congress, which has not spelt out its preference on Presidential poll either.
However, Congress spokesman Manish Tewari said that no final decision had been taken on the Vice-President issue as consultations were still underway.
“Only after formal announcement (of candidate) talks are held. What PM has said in the so-called deliberations, only he can give the details. But the final decision is taken only after proper consultations,” he said.
