Unmanned Naval UAV Crashes in Koch
Due to some technical malfunction, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) belonging to the Indian Navy has crashed in Kochi, reported PTI.
The aircraft crashed at nearly 7.30 pm outside the runway while preparing to make a landing, report said.
The aircraft, attached to INS Garuda, the naval air station of the Southern Naval Command, crashed outside the compound wall of the naval air station near the road and the railway line, said report.
A Naval spokesman said that a detailed inquiry has been ordered into the incident, report said.
The UAV, a Searcher Mark II-type made in Israel, was meant for a routine sortie – aerial observation and surveillance.
Eyewitnesses said that the aircraft broke into pieces on impact.
The reason for the crash could be failure of the engine or sensor, report said citing sources.
