Uma Resigns from Bharatiya Janashakti Party

In a very surprising political development, fire-brand Hindutva leader Uma Bharati has resigned from Bharatiya Janashakti Party, an outfit which she herself founded way back in 2005 after being sacked from BJP, reported PTI.

Her resignation comes in backdrop of speculations that she could return to BJP, given the preparedness of new party president Nitin Gadkari to let re-entry of some popular leaders, said report.

In her resignation, which was sent to acting president Sanghpriya Gautam, Bharati said that she was stepping down from the party ‘in view of the political situation in the country’ and her ‘state of health’, report said.

She said that her responsibility of being Bharatiya Janshakti party president and ‘my earnest desire for introspection and contemplation with free mind is putting too much strain on my body and mind’, said report.

“Therefore, I am resigning from party presidentship and relieving myself of all responsibilities,” she wrote in the letter.
