ULFA Commander-in-chief Paresh Barua Arrested in Bangladesh
The Bangladeshi security agencies have arrested Paresh Barua, one of the most wanted Indian fugitives and commander in chief of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), said media reports.
Barua was apprehended by the Bangladeshi security agencies nearly 12 days ago when he was trying to cross over to Bangladesh via Mynamar border after visiting Chinese Yunnan province, reports said.
Barua had left for Yunnan about four months ago after the Bangladeshi authorities launched a massive crackdown on anti-India insurgent groups.
Reports said that he was purchasing arms and ammunition for his outfit from Narinco Arms Factory.
“We are expecting Bangladesh to hand him over to us soon once they finish interrogating him,” reports quoted sources as saying.
Barua’s arrest is being considered as the final nail in ULFA’s coffin as most of its top leadership have already been handed over to India by Bangladesh.
