Two TV5 Editors Held after Report Triggers Violence
Two senior editors with the Telugu television channel TV5 were picked up for questioning Friday night and a criminal case was filed against the channel, after a speculative report alleging a conspiracy in the death of chief minister YSR Reddy triggered attacks on establishments owned by a leading corporate house across Andhra Pradesh.
Media reports identified the two journalists as TV5 Executive Editor, Bramhananda Reddy and Input Editor P Venkat Krishna.
Chief Minister YSR Reddy died in a tragic chopper crash September 2, 2009.
The corporate house has issued a strongly-worded denial expressing shock at the ‘libelous’ report.
Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh police have registered cases at 96 places and arrested 185 persons in connection with the attacks on outlets belonging to the corporate house.
