Two NDFB Militants Killed in Assam

Two National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) militants were killed, an ULFA camp was busted and a powerful bomb recovered on Wednesday as security forces stepped up operations in the run-up to the Independence Day celebrations in Assam.

An area commander and bomb expert of militant NDFB was killed in an encounter with security forces at Gogamukh in Dhemaji district, say media repots citing the state police.

Acting on a tip-off, a police and army joint team launched an operation in the area in which the militant, identified as Bhim Boro alias Gandhi, was killed while two others managed to escape.

A 7.65 pistol, four live cartridges, a grenade and extortion notes were recovered from the dead militant who was identified as Bhim Boro alias Gandhi.

In a separate joint encounter, another NDFB ultra was killed at Monabari tea estate in Sonitpur district, sources said.

The NDFB militants, say media reports, were hiding in the tea estate to disrupt Independence Day celebrations in the state.

Security forces launched a combing operation in the area on Tuesday.

An M-20 pistol with four rounds of ammunitions and a motorcycle were recovered from the encounter site.
