Two militants and three security personnel have been killed in a gunbattle that ended on Thursday morning in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, said report citing police.
Senior police official was quoted as saying by CNN-IBN that the slain militants beloned to the Hizbul Mujahideen outfit.
The gunbattle started on Wednesday evening after security force encircled a house in Tangmarg Watu village, nearly 70 km from Srinagar, said report.
Report said that the security forces had surrounded the house after receiving a tipoff about the presence of militants inside.
The officer said that when the guerrillas were asked to surrender, they opened fire at the surrounding troops in which one trooper of the Rashtriya Rifles and two policemen were injured and that this triggered the gunfight.
