Police control rooms to be on lines of 108 Ambulance Service

Bhopal: Police control rooms will be set up on lines of 108 Ambulance Service in the state to provide immediate police assistance to people in accidents, crimes and other emergencies. Its pilot project will be launched in 4 major cities Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior and Jabalpur. Home Minister Shri Umashankar Gupta discussed the proposal with officers here on Tuesday.

The Home Minister said that control rooms will be set up in entire state on the basis of knowledge acquired during visit to Hyderabad. Due to limited resources, the project will be launched initially in 4 major cities. Additional DGP Telecommunications Shri Anvesh Mangalam and other officers informed about prompt action being ensured by Hyderabad police by linking control room with 108 Ambulance Service. It is noteworthy that on the directives of the Home Minister, a 5-member team of state’s police officers led by Shri Mangalam had visited Hyderabad and chalked out a detailed report abut technical and other aspects of the project.
Shri Mangalam informed that over 60 additional vehicles will be needed for launching the project in 4 districts. GPS will also be fitted on vehicles. He informed that 101 fire service and 1090 women’s helpline will also be linked with this later. Central control room will be set up in Bhopal.
Telecommunication police staff will be trained and deployed to run the central control room. Civil staff of GVK EMRI will also be deployed to assist them. Calls will be received mainly by the civil staff and transfer the same to the police operator within 1-2 seconds for further action. Woman caller’s call will be received by woman operator only.
Shri Mangalam informed that with evolution of web portal and SMS-based information set up, information about major incidents in entire state will be available to police officers of various levels right from beat in-charge to DGP.
DGP Shri Nandan Dube and other officers also attended the meeting.
