Swami Asimanand’s police remand being extented

PANCHKULA: Special court of Panchkula has extended the police remand of Swami Asimanand by 10 days in connection with the Samjhauta blasts case.

Sources said, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has found fresh clues into the blasts after his arrest and is close to cracking the case. Asimanand is presently being interrogated by the National Investigation Agency.

Asimanand is emerging as the prime accused and master mind of the bombings which killed 68 passengers on board the Samjhauta Express in February 18, 2007. He was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in November from Haridwar in connection with the Mecca Masjid, Malegoan and Amjer blasts.

Jatin Chatterjee is the real of Swami Asimanand’s. He is believed to be close to Sadhvi Pragya who is also a suspect in the Malegaon blast case. He is a resident of Hooghly in West Bengal and is a post-graduate in Botany. He came to the tribal-dominated Dangs in south Gujarat in late 1990s.
