The gunbattle between militants and security personnel in Lal Chowk area of Srinagar has entered second day.
A policemen and a civilian were killed when militants threw grenade and opened fire indiscriminately in Lal Chowk on Wednesday.
The hotel where two militants were hiding and exchanged fire with security forces is on fire.
It should be noted that this is the biggest militant attack in Srinagar in two years. Incidences of violence have dramatically come down in recent years.
According to reports, heavy exchange of fire is continuing between security forces and the militants on Thursday as well.
Security personnel have positioned themselves on buildings around the hotel in which militants are hiding.
Reports said that nearly 10 people have been rescued from a neighbouring hotel in what is crowed business area in the city.
Police said that it was yet not known if militants had taken any hostages in the hotel.
