Sonia Turns Back to Alienated Allies

In what could be considered as an attempt to woo back the erstwhile supporters, AICC President Sonia Gandhi on Thursday reached to RJP supreme Lalu Prasad and LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan.

In addition, she also spoke telephonically to NCP chief Sharad Pawar, who is considered as one of the prime ministerial candidates if the Third Front or the Fourth Front government takes shape. Only yesterday, exit polls carried out by various news channels predicted a slight edge for the Congress-led UPA in the race for power at the Centre.

It should be noted that during the campaign, there was a lot of bad blood between leaders of Congress and RJD, LJP and SP, the troika forming the Fourth Front, but Gandhi scrupulously kept herself out of the war of words.

Accoring to reliable sources, Sonia was in regular touch with UPA allies and the party would wait for small outfits to open their cards after the results are out.

However, when asked about possible post poll truck, Congress said that it only considers BJP and Shiv Sena as communal parties.

“Only BJP and Shiv Sena are communal. We won’t have anything to do with these parties who spread hate and communalism,” AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh said here.

Asked whether Congress would seek an alliance with AIADMK, he merely said “AIADMK is not a communal party.”
