Rs. 221 cr to be provided for Bhopal, Indore BRTS and Bhopal’s Upper Lake

Bhopal: Urban Administration Minister Shri Babulal Gaur discussed state’s pending projects with Union Urban Development Minister Shri Kamalnath in New Delhi today. Following discussions, Rs. 221 crore sanction was granted to proposals of Bhopal and Indore BRTS and Bhopal’s Upper Lake conservation. Shri Gaur also discussed Rs. 1000 crore pending schemes with the Union Urban Administration Minister. Bhopal’s Mayor Smt. Krishna Gaur and state’s UAD Secretary Shri S.N. Mishra were also present.

Union Minister Shri Kamalnath informed that proposals for Rs. 1000 crore schemes have been examined. Against them, Rs. 840 crore will be released soon. Shri Gaur also held discussions on Rs. 1300 crore Narmada purification scheme with Shri Kamalnath. He informed that 53 cities on the banks of Narmada river have been selected under the scheme. Narmada will be purified in 24 cities in the first phase.

Minister Shri Gaur also discussed proposals pertaining of Simhastha-2016 at Ujjain. Shri Gaur informed that Rs. 2700 crore scheme has been chalked out of Ujjain Simhastha. This proposal will also be sent to Union Planning Commission.

Following meeting with the Union Minister, proposals worth Rs. 221 were sanctioned. These include Rs. 150 crore for supplementary DPR of Bhopal BRTS. The 21 km long BRTS from Bairagarh to Misrod is under construction at Bhopal. Rs. 54 crore has been sanctioned for signal system in Indore BRTS. Under this, intelligent transport system can be implemented to ensure smooth flow of traffic. With implementation of this system, bus rapid transit travel time will be fixed and automatic ticket system and CCTV surveillance system can be installed. Rs. 17 crore has been sanctioned for lakefront development of Bhopal’s Upper Lake. Under the scheme, walkway and cycle track along the lake banks from VIP Road to Khanugaon will be constructed. Sit-out and parking facilities will also be provided.

Rs. 1000 crore UIDSSMT proposals of state’s urban bodies were also discussed during the meeting. The scheme has been chalked out for 62 towns. Of these, 37 pertain to water supply, 34 to urban roads’ construction and 3 of sewerage and drainage system. Union Minister Shri Kamalnath informed that Rs. 840 crore will be released within a couple of days for water supply and sewerage system for selected towns of state.
