Shoaib Asked Not to Leave India, Hands over Passport to Police: Report

Cricketer Shoaib Malik, who faces charges of allegedly ‘cheating’ Hyderabadi girl Ayesha Siddiqui and marrying tennis star Sania Mirza without divorcing his first wife, has been asked not to leave the country, reported NDTV citing unnamed sources in Hyderabad police.

Malik is believed to have submitted his passport to the police, a day after Ayesha’s father Mohammed Siddiqui filed a case against him, said report.

Quoting police sources, report said that case has been transferred to the central crime station and is being handled by an experienced officer.

In the case, the position of the police is that ‘Shoaib’s arrest is not a priority for us, we have to investigate the case first’, report said.

In the meanwhile, Ayesha told police that she was threatened with dire consequences and even offered money to keep quiet, said report.

Early in the morning, police questioned Malik at the Hyderabad home of his fiancée Sania Mirza where he has been staying since he arrived in the city on Saturday.

“We are trying to collect evidence. Shoaib is cooperating and Sania is supporting him. They say they know the truth behind the whole issue,” a police official was quoted as saying after the team talked to the cricketer for one-and-a-half hours.
