‘PadMan’ box-office collection Day 3: Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte starrer film mints Rs 16 crore

Director R. Balki’s film ‘PadMan’ is based on the short story ‘The Sanitary Man of Sacred Land’ in Twinkle Khanna’s book ‘The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad’, which is inspired by the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a social activist from Tamil Nadu who introduced low-cost sanitary pads.
Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte starrer ‘PadMan’ which saw a decent opening on Friday and collected Rs 10 crore has seen a good rise at the box-office on the weekend. According to reports on Boxofficeindia.com, the film has minted Rs 16 crore on its third day at the box-office taking its total to Rs 39.50 crore.
The R. Balki film revolves around Lakshmikant Chauhan, who is concerned about his wife Gayatri’s menstrual hygiene and urges her to ditch the cloth and opt for sanitary napkins. Gayatri is reluctant to go for disposable pads as they are expensive. Lakshmi’s obsession over a ‘ladies problem’ makes her cringe but he insists on bringing upon a change by addressing the taboo topic. Subjected to hostility for ruffling the religious and age-old beliefs of people around, the man tries to brave the resistance and get his point across to the others.
The film is produced by Twinkle Khanna under her home banner Mrs Funnybones Productions. Akshay even went on to promote the film by introducing the #PadmanChallenge wherein he posed with a sanitary pad and asked others too. The entire Bollywood came out in support of him and took up the challenge as they posted pictures of themselves with sanitary pads on their respective social media handles.
