Second phase of Census-2011 going on in national capital

NEW DELHI: On Wednesday the second and last phase of the 2011 Census for population enumeration began in the national capital. The head count started with the enumeration of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

Dikshit said after signing the enumeration sheet, ‘Indian census has been the most credible source of planning and it is the vital exercise involving collection of information on various aspects like demography, economic activity, literacy and education.’

CM asked people to provide all information and cooperate with the enumerators to make the exercise a success.

There are two phases of 2011 Census,one is on the house listing operation and the other is population enumeration.
The house listing operation along with collection of information for preparation of a National Population Register started in Delhi between April to September last year.

The population enumeration, the second phase, is being conducted simultaneously all over the country till Feb 28.
Around 5,000 supervisors have been deployed to take the census. About 30,000 enumerators will visit each and every house to collect information about each individual.

Revisit of enumerators would take place to all households during March 1 to 5 to take account of recent death and birth after Feb 28.
