Advocate filed a petition citing the example of Shraddha, Nikki

Expressing concern over the increasing cases of murders of partners in live-in relationships, Advocate Mamta Rani had filed this petition in the court. He had said that as registration of marriage is done, the same should be done in live-in relationship.

In the petition, the lawyer gave examples of Shraddha Walkar, Nikki Yadav. The petitioner said that the court had earlier also considered such relations within the purview of fundamental rights. The central government should register those living in live-in, so that their records are available with the police.

The CJI asked the petitioner- ‘Registration with whom, with the Central Government, what does the Central Government have to do with people living in live-in relationships. Asking two questions, the CJI said, ‘Are you trying to promote the security of these people or to stop live-in. We dismiss this silly petition.
