Sania Mirza to Hang up Racquet after Marriage
India’s tennis sensation Sania Mirza has revealed that she will quit the game after she is married, said reports.
The most successful female tennis player of the country, Sania did not elaborate as to when she plans to marry, only that she will hang up her racquet after tying the nuptial knot, reported PTI.
“As of now, I don’t intend to play professionally after marriage but that is still some time away,” Sania was quoted as saying.
Sohrab, to whom Sania was engaged in July 2009, had said before the engagement that Sania would have complete freedom in making her career decisions.
“She has my complete support and backing in whatever she wishes. It is completely her decision for how long she wishes to play,” Sohrab had said.
In response to a query whether it was purely Sania’s decision to quit the game, her father Imran Mirza was quoted as saying, “It’s her decision for now. If later she decides to play after marriage, its her choice.”
Ever since turning pro in 2003, Sania has been the face of Indian tennis on the WTA circuit.
