Four School Students Arrested for Damaging Mayawati Poster in Lucknow

For allegedly smearing colour on chief minster Mayawati’s posters in Lucknow during Holi, four students of UP Sainik School have been taken into custody and sent to juvenile home, reported PTI.

Report said quoting official sources that the students were held on Holi night for damaging public property and a case was registered against them under the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.

It may be mentioned that they are appearing for their class twelve examinations.

Though police claimed to have captured them damaging public property, school authorities charged that police was evening with them, report said.

“It doesn’t seem that our students would do such an act,” school spokesman K K Tiwari was quoted as saying.

Tiwari said that students had gone out of the hostel on Holi night to buy some medicine, said report.

“While they were returning back, the students were stopped by police, who alleged that they had damaged posters of the CM and booked them on charges of damaging public property,” he was quoted as saying.

“Why these students, who are meritorious and passed their high school examination with more than 85 per cent marks indulged in such activity. They are being framed by police,” father of a student Rajkumar was quoted as alleging.

“With board examinations going on, our children are brought to school from juvenile home to appear in the examination. They are being treated like murderers,” Rajkumar alleged.

The bail application of the four students would be heard in juvenile court today.
