Rail Services Briefly Disrupted on Bomb Scare

Rail services were briefly disrupted on the Mumbai-Howrah route as a bomb scare was triggered after five small crude bombs were found lying along the tracks along with some crackers, said media reports.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Railway) M Mahanta said that bombs, which are usually used during celebrations, were found lying along the tracks at Chaukipada on Friday, reports said.

He said that personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and government railway police (GRP) rushed to the site immediately and a bomb detection and disposal squad was called, said reports.

He said that before the squad reached, an officer of the local police knowing bomb detection and disposal operation neutralized them by immersing them in water, reports said.

He said that trains remained suspended on the busy route for about an hour and normal traffic resumed after the explosives were removed, said reports.
