Guv Calls Chief Sy for Update on Situation in Lalgarh

With chief minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee scheduled to visit West Midnapore on November 7, Governor Gopalkrishan Gandhi has summoned chief secretary Asok Mohan Chakrabarti and asked for a report on the present security situation in Lalgarh.

‘The Governor called me to ask about the latest situation in Lalgarh. It is not proper for me to say anything more,” said the chief secretary at the Writers’ Buildings later.

According to reports, chief secretary briefed the Governor on the ongoing operation to drive rebels out of Lalgarh and on the development initiatives taken by the state government for the upliftment of t ribals in the region.

Also, opposition leader Partha Chatterjee also met the Governor on Thursday evening and reportedly told him that the state government has failed to maintain law and order in the state. He is said to have cited instances of fresh violence in Arambagh and Khanakul.

“I have requested the Governor to ask the government to take immediate action. I highlighted the fact that the state government is not only sitting idle but is also instigating the attacks,” he said.
