Police charged Amit Gupta in Anjali’s suicide case

BHOPAL: On Wednesday the Indian Air Force has suspended Group Captain Amit Gupta, who has been charged with abetment to suicide of sacked officer Anjali Gupta, said police.

Madhya Pradesh Police inquiring into the suicide has charged Amit Gupta under section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and a Bhopal court has sent him to 14 days in judicial custody Tuesday.

Anjali’s mother Uma Gupta has alleged that Amit Gupta was into a relationship with Anjali but he had refused to marry her.

‘A letter of suspension has been sent to Amit Gupta by the air force. It has been sent to jail for his signature,’ Shahpura police station chief G.H. Jagait told IANS.

Sunday night, the body of Anjali was found hanging from a ceiling fan at the house of Amit Gupta, 51.

A resident of Delhi, Anjali after being sacked from the air force was working in a private firm in Bangalore. On way to Banglore, she had stopped over at Bhopal to meet Amit on Sep 7.
Anjali’s mother said she had complained to IAF officials about Amit sexually exploiting her daughter.

Twenty nine year old, Anjali, a former Flying Officer in the IAF was dismissed after a general court martial found her guilty of charges including embezzling funds and insubordination and recommended in December 2005 that she be ‘cashiered’ — stripped of her rank and discharged.
