Parliament Rocked over Exorbitant BSP Function

Parliament was rocked on Tuesday over allegations of exorbitant expenditure on 25th anniversary of BSP, said media reports.

The SP and the Congress have been alleging that the UP government mobilized the state machinery and spent Rs 200 crore on the function.

Also, demands are rising for a CBI investigation into BSP’s foundation day celebration even as Mayawati has already instructed her own probe into the swarm of bees that was seen hovering around the dais while she was addressing the rally at Lucknow’s Ramabai Ambedkar ground.

Many politicians flayed Mayawati for multi-crore garland gifted to her by her supporters during the rally, report said.

The garland was made up of hundreds of Rs 1000 note.

“Using currency notes as garland is not done. There should be a law so that people do not do such things in future,” JDU President Sharad Yadav was quoted as saying.

SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, BJP and Congress also snubbed Mayawati for accepting the garland made of banknotes, reports said.

BSP MP Vijay Bahadur, however, termed the garland as an expression of love of the people, said reports.

“It is the faith of the people and that they want to gift garland made of Rs 1000 notes for their leader,” Bahadur was quoted as saying.

Garland, which was heavy enough to require six party workers to hold it up to present it the Mayawati, might have cost Rs 2 to 5 crore, said reports.

According to reports, it was gifted by the party’s Karnataka unit. However, some claim that it was gifted by the Lucknow unit.

The BSP has been claiming that the garland was made up of flowers and not Rs 1000 notes.
