Mayawati Govt Dismisses Allegations of Misuse of NREGA Funds
After coming under attack for alleged misuse of central funds meant for NREGA, the Uttar Pradesh government has dismissed charges, claiming that the state holds second position in implementation of the scheme, said media reports.
“UP has created a record by spending Rs 5,600 crore under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Scheme till March 20, which is 85 per cent higher than last year. The state has achieved second rank in the country,” Principal Secretary (Rural Development) Shri Krishna was quoted as saying.
The remarks came in the wake of allegations of misuse of NREGA funds from AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi.
During a recent visit to Amethi, Gandhi had accused Mayawati government of failing to properly utilise the funds allocated by the Centre.
