Karunakaran passed away, Congress leaders payed their condolence

TRIVUNANTHPURAM: The Congress President Sonia Gandhi paid homage to veteran Congress leader K. Karunakaran at his residence in Trivunanthpiuram, where his mortal remains is secured. Karunakaran passed away at a private hospital on Thursday after long illness.

Ms. Gandhi talked and conveyed her condolences to Karunakaran’s politician son Mr. Muraleedharan and daughter Padmaja Venugopal.

Also the Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram and The UPA Chairperson placed a wreath and paid her respects to Karunakaran. Union Ministers A K Antony, Vayalar Ravi, and other senior Congress leaders from the state paid their respects to the departed leader.

For the public to pay respects the body of Karunakaran is kept at KPCC headquarters Indira Bhavan, he has left his own political legacy in the state as his career spanned over seven decades.

Before the funeral process, his body would be kept at the government secretariat Dubar Hall for Thrissur, where it would be cremated with full state honours tomorrow.

The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is scheduled to attend the funeral, Congress sources said.
