Search Operation Continues in Thekkady Lake

Indian Navy divers have resumed search operation for missing people of Thekkady boad capsize in the lake at the Periyar wildlife sanctuary where slippers and scattered bits of clothing, the mute remnants of tragedy that killed 42 tourists, floated in the placid waters.

PK Kuttapayi, Idukki Superintendent of Police, informed that the divers for seeing if they could recover some more bodies.

“Even though we have not received any official complaint about missing people, there are reports that four people are yet to be traced. It appears there is some sort of confusion in this regard. The divers will be in the lake for some more time,” Kuttapayi was quoted as saying by IANS.

According to information, a 19-year-old son and 15-year-old daughter of an Andhra Pradesh couple, were among those missing. The couple is too heartbroken to speak to the media.

Media reports said that a mother and a daughter from Tamil Nadu were also reported to be missing after the tragedy.

In the meanwhile, authorities said that all the bodies had been transported out by 2 am Friday to be sent on to their homes across the country for last rites.

It may be mentioned that casualties included 12 each from from Delhi and Tamil Nadu, five each from West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh, three each from Karnataka and Kerala and one from Mumbai.

The ill-fated double-decker fibreglass boat owned by the state-run Kerala Tourism Development Corporation was pressed into service only last month.
