Pak Forces Kill 22 in NW Offensive
In the ongoing campaign against Taliban insurgents along the country’s north-western frontier bordering Afghanistan, Pakistani security forces are reported to have killed 22 militants and arrested another 14 in a late night operation near the Orakzai tribal region on Sunday.
The Pakistani troops backed by tanks and artillery attacked Taliban positions in the village of Shahukhel, a local police official later said the insurgents used rocket propelled grenades during the night-long fighting, the troops responded with artillery and tank fire.
A Taliban spokesperson has claimed that both sides suffered heavy casualties in the action.
Independent verification of claims however is virtually impossible as correspondents have limited access to the conflict zone.
