BJP MLA beats civic staffer on demolition drive run-in, arrested

Indore MLA and son of Bharatiya Janata Party General secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, Akash Vijayvargiya here on Wednesday attacked Indore municipal corporation official with a cricket bat in the presence of police force.

An FIR was registered against Akash and later he was produced in a district court that sent him to judicial custody (jail) till July 11.

The incident took place when the municipal corporation staff had gone to remove some encroachments from a busy area in the city this afternoon. The MLA Akash Vijayvargiya objected to the action alleging that the action was being undertaken at the behest of Kamal Nath minister Sajjan Singh Verma who is an old rival of his father Kailash Vijayvargiya in MP politics.

Videos of Akash hitting the officer with a cricket bat and chasing him to beat him up further went viral on social media. His supporters also hurled abuses on government staff and tried beating them up. The police personnel were taken aback with the sudden assault tried saving the government staff all this while.

In another video, the BJP MLA is also seen threatening the municipal corporation staff to leave the place in 15 minutes otherwise be responsible for anything that happens afterwards.

The IMC staff had reached the Ganji Compound area to raze down house of one Bherulal. Akash Vijayvargiya also alleged that IMC staff misbehaved with a woman on the pretext of anti-removal action. The ruckus continued for a while where several IMC staffers were manhandled.
