UAE Court Awards Death Sentence to 17 Indians for Killing Pakistani

A Shariah Court in Sharjah has awarded death sentence to 17 Indians for killing a Pakistani man and injuring three others in a brutal attack last year, reported PTI.

A Khaleej Times report said that Judge Yousuf Al Hamadi sentenced them to death after all proof, including DNA tests, showed that they had stabbed the Pakistani to death, repor said.

Police said that the victim died of multiple injuries received on various parts of the body, including brain damage, in the stabbing, said report.

The paper said that the attack in January last year followed a fight over the control of the illegal liquor business in Al Sajaa area of Sharjah, one of the emirates of UAE, said report.

Police had alleged that the attackers even tried to kill three other compatriots of the victim, who somehow managed to flee and rushed to Kuwaiti Hospital for treatment, report said.

All convicted men are aged between 17 and 30 years.

The three surviving Pakistanis alleged that 50 people had set upon them with knives on that fateful day last year.

Police had rushed to the area and arrested the 17, who had allegedly led the attack. The others were let off due to lack of evidence.

During court hearings, all the suspects confessed they had fought with and murdered the victim. Forensics reports and DNA tests also proved their role in the crime.
