Gilchrist pushed Chennai to the brink of elimination

DHARMSHALA: The most consistent and dominating team up to last IPL has been pushed to brink of elimination from play offs by Kings XI Punjab.

Though they still have an outside, chance but it depends on the results of other teams. The victory for the Punjab was set up by a super show of pace bowling by the Pace attack of Punjab, which was led by Praveen Kumar.

The pace attack comprising of Kumar, Awana, Harris and Azhar Mahmood does not provide Chennai any opportunity of score by restricting the scoring and picking up the wickets at regular intervals. Their entire top batsman failed miserably, only Bravo was able to put up a fight with 48 runs and guides Chennai to a decent total.

Punjab , boosted by the return of their captain Adam Gilchrist after one month’s injury lay of chase down the target easily in 16.1 overs. Gilchrist was the main artist of victory. He came to open the innings and remain unbeaten on 64 runs. Bravo bowled well and picks up two wickets.

Brief Scores: Kings XI Punjab 123 for 4 (Gilchrist 64*, Bravo 2-18) beat Chennai Super Kings 120 for 7 (Bravo 48, Awana 2-12, Praveen 2-18) by six wickets

Dhoni: Not trying to score too many, bowled really well, their lengths were good and whenever we tried to get out of the situation, they got the wickets. Watching the next few games will not change anything, let’s wait and watch.

Gilchrist: Good to take field, one of those days when Chennai batsmen nicked all of them, all of them straight-forward catches. There was a guy badly injured, so no big deal about not taking the third run (Srikkanth Anirudha incident). We need to win our game against Delhi and await some other results too.

Gilchrist is also the man of the match for his all-round performance, catches, runs and a win as a captain.
