Monsoon to hit North India next week

New Delhi: There is the first week of july and there is no sign of rain in North India. Mercury is still touching the 40 Degree mark  Met Department, now says that Monsoon will hit Delhi on 4th july.
Delayed in Monsoon create an acute power crisis looms over North India. India’s second largest reservoir at the Bhakra Dam is approaching critically low levels. It’s not just electricity, even irrigation could be badly affected in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.
The Bhakra Beas management board has warned the three states that cuts in water and power supply will be necessary if the monsoons arrive later than the first week of July.
“It is not abnormal for the monsoon to stop at one place. It moves in one pulse and then stops. We hope that another pulse will start in the next week, and then the monsoon will move forward,” Met department said.

Surprisingly, IMD data showed one per cent area of the country – Sikkim and adjoining parts – getting excess rains, and 30 per cent area receiving normal rains.

It showed 33 per cent of the country – parts of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka – getting deficient rains and another 36 per cent receiving scanty rains.

Almost the entire northwest region, Gujarat and Kutch, Rayalseema and Tamil Nadu have got scanty rains.

This season the monsoon had a delayed onset over Kerala which got first seasonal showers on June 5 and made sputtering progress towards the north.

The monsoonal flows were yet to pick up steam but eastern and northeastern parts have been getting regular showers due to favourable weather conditions ranging from sub-Himalayan West Bengal to North Bay of Bengal.
