Lathicharge on the fans of World Cup
BANGALORE: Police did lathi-charge at the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore on Thursday morning on hundreds of fans who were waiting to buy tickets.
The stadium can accommodate 40,000 people but barely 8,000 tickets are up for sale. The match between India and England will be played on Sunday.
Yesterday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) wrote an angry letter to Sharad Pawar, who is the Chairman of the World Cup Central Organising Committee. Ticket sales for the World Cup have been a PR and management disaster.
The ICC pointed out that with tickets in very short supply, box office sales could turn into a security nightmare.
It also stressed that people who have bought tickets months in advance online from Kyazoonga, the official ticketing partner for the event, have yet to be delivered. Kyazoonga’s website also crashed yesterday when tickets for the final went on sale.
ICC has not been given its share of tickets for matches for its international sponsors who’re entitled to complimentary tickets.
