Militant’s Bid to Target Amarnath Yatra Foiled

Army has thawed militants’ attempt to target the Amarnath yatra by spotting and defusing an an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway at Panthal, 155 kms from Jammu.

According to them, militants had planted the high intensity devise in the area with an intention to target a convoy of the Amarnath yatra.

They said that IED was spotted by the Road Opening Party (RoP) of Army, which is guarding the highway.

Before the detection, traffic was stopped at Panthal and cavalcade of 53 vehicles carrying 1703 pilgrims was halted. Then, a special bomb disposal squad of army defused the IED, they informed.

The yatra and traffic was resumed after one hour-long halt till 1015 hours, they said.
