MCI President Ketan Desai Arrested for Accepting Bribe

President of Medical Council of India Ketan Desai has been taken into custody with two others for allegedly accepting bribe worth Rs two crore for granting recognition to a medical college in Punjab, said media reports.

CBI arrested Desai late last night after conducting searches at his office in New Delhi on information that he along with his associate Jitender Pal Singh was allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs two crore to recognise a college in Punjab, reports said quoting CBI spokesperson Harsh Bahal.

Bahal said that the CBI arrested Desai along with Singh and another aide Dr Kanwaljit Singh of Gyan Sagar Medical College in Punjab on corruption charges, reports said.

He said that they are being questioned and searches are on at six other places in Delhi and outside, said reports.

The CBI laid a trap after receiving a complaint and caught Singh allegedly with Rs 2 crore which was to be delivered to Desai.
