Mayawati In Trouble for Elephant Statues Now
Already facing controversy for installation of statues of Dalit icons including herself, BSP chief Mayawati has got into trouble in the case, this time around for hundreds of statues of elephants in these parks, reported NDTV.
The elephant is the symbol of Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party or BSP.
The Supreme Court has given the Election Commission three months to decide whether these statues violate its poll code.
Ravi Kant, who moved a plea against Mayawati in the court, was quoted as saying: “The petition is about the misuse of public money and installation of BSP symbols in memorials.”
The apex court is also studying memorials of Dalit icons, which are being constructed with a fund close to 2000 crores using tax payers money.
