Maoists Abduct, Behead Cop in West Bengal

Maoist rebels have killed a policeman in West Bengal whom they abducted, reported CNN-IBN.

Sanjoy Ghosh, who the sole bread winner for his family, was  brutally murdered while he was training at a police camp in Bankura, said report.

A Bengal Armed Police constable, Sanjoy was tortured and beheaded by alleged Maoists in Bankura on Tuesday, report said.

His body was so badly mutilated that family members were asked not to open his coffin for a last look, said report.

Ghosh’s father Tapan Ghosh is 64 years old and a contract labourer, exactly the kind of poor that Maoist revolutionaries promise to protect and fight for.

“I ask the government to provide a job to my youngest daughter,” Tapan Ghosh was quoted as saying.

“I would tell those who killed my brother that they should stop such brutal acts and not rob any more families of their brothers,” Sanjoy Ghosh’s sister Rupa Ghosh was quoted as saying.

Ghosh, who had jointed the State Armed Police merely 16 months ago, had spent around nine months in the jungles training and guarding a police camp in Bankura, report said.

Maoists abducted him from the camp on January 25 and later his body was found with a slit throat, multiple head injuries and a nearly severed right arm, said report.

Though the police remained silent about the abduction, Sanjoy’s family members allege they came to know of his death from a television news report.
